Is Gaming Healthy? – What Are and Are Not the Healthy Benifits?

Sharing is caring!

In today’s topic I have chosen a taught on. Is Gaming Healthy? – what are and are not the healthy benefits to gaming? So let us take a deeper look into this topic, and see whether gaming is healthy or not.

The Hands

Hands are unique because of having thumbs. But it is the way we use them that sets us apart. So in the gaming world what is the health benefits. One benefit is eye hand coordination. If you are lacking in eye hand coordination this is the way to help improve that over all.

As for exercising, your figures are constantly moving. There are many buttons on a controller that you must use together, separately, or multi times. The downside to this is that after a while your hands become cramped, stiff and sore. This can lead to Carpal tunnel or tendinitis in the wrist.

The Eyes

Yes the eyes are a sensitive and delicate part of our body. In gaming our eyes must see all the surrounding area of the game. Your eyes are constantly moving giving them plenty of exercise. The down fall to this is after a long period of gaming your eyes get tired leading to eye strain.

The Legs

The Wii system was created to get people up and moving while playing games. So in a sense for those who play Wii yes they are up on their legs and active. But for those with other systems I am sorry to say there is no good health benefit to this. Sitting for long periods of time can lead to many other health problems.

The Body

When playing a game whether people wish to admit it or not our bodies do move, especially when you’re playing a highly intensive game. But is it enough to be a health benefit. That would depend on if your an intense player or not. But as for the rest of us who are not intense players their is no health benefits.

The Mind

The mind is a curious thing indeed, but as like within life the games we play will always be a health benefit. You see no matter where we go or what we do we are always using are minds. In gaming, we need to use our quick thinking skills, strategy skill, and always be on the look out for danger. As long as we can keep our minds active, then it will always be a healthy activity

Time For Wrap Up

I myself after writing this have decided that there are health benefits to gaming and there are not as well. Will I quit gaming knowing of some bad health risks? Definitely NOT, because as I get old in age there are benefits to playing my video games. So what is you thought on health and video games? Please comment below and I’ll get back to you soon. As always Thank You

  1. Hi, Lori, I looked at your website. I’m not much of a gamer anymore, used to be one back in the Windows XP days. If I were into modern gaming, I’d see your site as great resource for products and the otheraspects of gaming. I like that you covered health aspects of gaming. Good work, keep it going!

  2. Hello Dave and thank you for the comment. I also remember windows XP game play, those were the days. You know you are never to old to start gaming in todays gaming world. You never know until you try is.
Thank you for visiting and I hope you will come and check this site out again. You never know what information I am going to write next. Once again Thank You.

    1. Not totally sure for that system when I down loaded the image was a limited edition bundle pack. I do think that it is a Spiderman skin for I belive that was the bundle pack I was going to showcase till I couldn’t find it no more.

  3. Hey Lori. I always grew up with gaming systems, and love to play games. However, now that I have kids, I worry about the screen time they are already getting. I like your spin on gaming, and showing that there can be some benefits to gaming. I just prefer the less realistic type games for my littles. Thanks for your thoughts, and added take into the gaming world!

    1. Hi Mary, well there are games out there that are not so realistic and not so violent content. Infact you have given me a great ideal for another post. Less realistic games for little kids. Pleas give me time to research and write this article but hopefully will be up soon. Check back often for new content please and thank you.

  4. I believe that there is a lot of benefits that come from playing video games. You’ve covered most of them. As one wise man has said, “too much of anything is good for nothing.” So a healthy balance between gaming and life is a must. Thanks for sharing your post.

  5. Hi, Lori,

I remember when I was a kid my mother would get mad at me for playing too much. She would hide my console until she eventually gave it away lol. I must confess I played a lot. As soon as I got home from school, I would go directly to my room and start playing. I would spend hours just like that. I had terrible headaches but it didn’t matter. Now as an adult, I don’t have any video games. I play from time to time when I visit my cousins but that’s all.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hello Enrique, I can understand about spending to much time for wants in a while I will set aside a entire weekend to gaming and push my self to exhaustion before I give up. But I only do that as a reward to myself for a great month. thanks for visiting and hope you will come back again.
